Desktops and laptops are almost matched in performance, but desktops are less expensive. Laptop components at the same level of desktop come in higher prices because they are smaller and more expensive to produce. If you want to get more powerful laptop, the price will be significantly higher, up to $ 1500 and more.

02: Portability

According to portability, desktops are not a good choice. Desktops are heavier, as they have many joined parts that makes it impossible to move around easily. They are designed to be used in a single location, when set up once. Desktops are not suitable for employees who frequently travel. The major difference between laptops and desktops is their portability. Laptops are the best choice for employees who stay away from the office and take their computing to go. Due to their compact size you can carry it from place to place.

Desktops usually come with full size parts, like processors that are often more powerful than laptops. Desktops are smoother and faster in performance because of its full size powerful processor. Laptop come with similar processor models, but they are not as powerful as the desktops. Gaming laptops can have an equal performance, but their prices are much higher.

Setting up a desktop is a little bit hard, but it’s not difficult to connect everything together to start up a system and begin to use it. Desktops require little experience and more space to set up. Modern laptops need no experience at all to set up, as they are built to be easy to use. Laptops just take little time to get running from driving out of the box and plug in to pressing the power button, because they don’t require any wiring outside of a charging cable to connect a monitor, keyboard or mouse.

Repairing a desktop is much easier than laptop. Most of the hardware can be easily purchased from the local market. It is very difficult to open a laptop for repairing. Sometimes computer manufacturer has to call for replacing a part.

If your basic purpose of buying a new computer is for work, then it totally depends on what kind of work you want to do. Desktops are best option for graphic designers and video editors, as it will provide more power. If you are a stationary worker (home/office) a desktop computer will be right choice. If you travel frequently for work, or you want mobility (travel, coffee shops, around the house, etc.) a laptop is the best option for you.

In the classroom when you write down your work/research on a paper, you can save them on desktops later at home or in a computer lab. But laptops are more convenient. Laptops are helpful for students. If you take your laptop in the classroom (when permitted), you can use it to take notes, bring up your syllabus papers and research work back to your home with you.

Laptops are easier out of the box to setup than desktops. You feel more relax to use laptops because of its mobility, as you can easily move it to location where you want, like your couch or bed, or coffee table.

Desktops are capable of using high-powered video cards that provide supreme speeds and processing power. Desktops facilitates gamers to utilize large monitor display. Laptops are small in size and limited in power, which can limit the graphic capabilities. Although laptops have limited RAM, CPU, storage and graphics, but some higher-end laptops can provide better than average graphics for gaming and CAD based applications.
